The OxTrad Rowing Experience

Yesterday, 36 of the OxTrad student body had the opportunity to try out a thoroughly Oxford sport: rowing. A very popular sport with Oxonians during the term, most Oxford colleges have their own boat club as well as the University as a whole, which competes in an annual fixture against Cambridge known as ‘The Boat Race’, dating back to 1829.

While the speeds reached on the Isis (the local nickname for the River Thames in Oxford dating back to the middle ages) were modest, rowing can be a difficult sport to pick up and our students put in plenty of effort, ensuring the sessions were rewarding and fun!
