This past Saturday, July 8, Dr. Robert Reinauer’s Economics class made a special field trip outside of Cambridge to the town of Lowell. It was here that water-powered textile mills helped propel the United States into the Industrial Age. The mills opened in 1814. The students enjoyed a walked through Lowell’s picturesque downtown and visited the Lowell National Historic Park, where the history of the mills and their significance are explained in depth. This trip was a great chance for students to see how local economics can usher in a new era for national growth and social change.
