Dear Parents of Oxbridge St Andrews Students,
What a great day! With the excitement of the University of St Andrews graduation ceremonies greeting them, students arrived to St. Salvator’s Hall (once the home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton!) to begin their own journeys at this historic, beautiful university. Thank you for sharing your children with us and entrusting them to us. We have so enjoyed meeting them throughout the day, and all who have arrived are settling in nicely and are getting to know their classmates and roommates. There are a few students who are still en route and will be arriving on Wednesday due to flight delays because of weather in the New York area, and we can’t wait for them to be here too!
And you wouldn’t know from their enthusiasm that your children have been traveling for many hours from all corners of the globe to come here. Throughout the afternoon, students have already jumped in full force with tours of the town and icebreaker activities led by our Activities Directors. We’re off to a flying start!
If he or she has not already, your student should be contacting you. We have wifi throughout St. Salvator’s Hall, and computers for students to use in our Common Room. We will also be helping students find where to purchase a cheap Pay-As-You-Go phone if they would like one. We have encouraged each of your children to make sure they contact you to let you know of their arrival, and please don’t hesitate to reach out to us by email at email@example.com or by phone 0 (44) 1334 46 2222 ext. 7140 if they have not, or for any other question or inquiry.
Students are in class from 9 am – 12:30 pm from Monday through Saturday and 2 pm – 4 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. They will also be engaged in a plethora of activities on offer. If your child does not email or call you back immediately, do not fret. They are most likely engaged with their friends and with the wonderful classes, speakers and activities of the program. You may want to set up a regular time to contact your son or daughter. Part of the experience that a program like this one fosters is learning to become independent from you, while still keeping in touch often enough so that you feel reassured that they are safe and happy.
Another way to keep in touch with what is going on here is to follow our blog at https://oxbridgeacademicprograms.wordpress.com/category/oxbridge-st-andrews/. Each day, we will post fresh content highlighting the life of the Program through updates about activities and the classroom experiences of your children.
Tomorrow, your children will meet their Major and Minor teachers after our Opening Ceremony. The faculty all arrived on Sunday, and they are an amazing group of scholars and educators. As I listened to them speak about their work, I wished I could take all their classes!
Later in the day, students will be engaging in a town scavenger hunt, the St Andrews Quest, which will help them further get to know the town and each other. In the evening, the students will also be sorted into three “clans.” Throughout the month, McHamish, Buchanan, Swilcan will vie for the Clan Cup. The competition is a modified version of the traditional St Andrews inter-hall league, and I can’t wait to see the kids share their talents with us as they compete.
If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the office between the hours of 8 AM and 12 midnight (Scottish time) at 0 (44) 1334 46 2222 ext. 7140 or e-mail us at this address, and one of the extremely helpful and capable members of the Administrative team will respond to your needs as quickly as they possibly can.
Thank you again for sharing your children with us. We are excited to begin the journey with them and look forward to a great start to the program!
