Churchill historian Professor Christopher Catherwood regaled our students with tales of the rocky career of Winston Churchill. Catherwood guided us through Churchill’s failures as First Lord of the Admiralty in World War I, his role in the creation of Iraq in 1921, before the more familiar legend of WWII. Catherwood, a member of the Royal Historical Society and author of several books on Churchill, also discussed Churchill’s lack of support for Indian independence. A vibrant Q n A session simultaneously tarnished and burnished Churchill’s reputation. Perhaps the greatest lesson of the session: history is never finished.
